Amazonas Plástica

 

Plastic pollution is a problem that occurs all around the globe, and the use of it keeps increasing. If we don’t do anything about it, by the year 2050 we will have been completely flooded by it. The amount of plastic that we use every day is truly alarming; there are 1.000.000 bottles being bought every minute, 20.000 per second. The projections concerning the use of plastic claim that, if we don’t change our way of consuming, it will increase by 20% in the next year. Since 1950 we have produced in total 8.000 million tons tons of plastic, out of which only 9% has been recycled. Twelve percent has been burned and the remaining 79 % has been simply thrown away.

Using photography as a tool, I want to show how something that stays in our hands for a few minutes leaves a mark on our planet for 600 years. My photos demonstrate how plastic has reached the most remote places in The Amazon. If we keep producing and consuming plastic the way we do it now, it can soon become another island of plastic, like the one already existing on the Pacific Ocean. We have to educate ourselves and change the way we use plastic, the way we get rid of it, because we seem not to realize that with a single bottle we can contaminate the planet both physically and visually.

El fenómeno de la contaminación del plástico está ocurriendo en todo el mundo, y su consumo sigue creciendo, si no hacemos nada para el año 2050 estaremos totalmente inundados en él, ya que su consumo es alarmante, llegando a 1.000.000 de botellas compradas por minuto o 20.000 por segundo, y su curva de crecimiento es de un 20% para el año 2021, es decir mañana si no cambiamos nuestra forma de consumir este recurso. Desde 1950  se han fabricado un total de 8.000 millones de toneladas de plástico en todas sus presentaciones. Solo el 9% es reciclado, un 79% está en basureros o flotando por ahí y el 12% restante se quema.

Por medio de este trabajo fotográfico quiero mostrar cómo este pequeño placer de minutos en nuestras manos, deja una huella de 600 años en el planeta, muestro como ha invadido los rincones más rincones de una Amazonas que si no le ponemos el ojo, muy pronto estará como la isla de plástico en el pacífico, tenemos que cambiar  nuestra  forma de consumir y educarnos   en la forma como nos deshacemos de la “basura” al botarla, pues no caemos en cuenta que una simple botella puede contaminar el medio ambiente tanto físicamente como visualmente.
